HAZE music, discography, MP3, videos and reviews

Haze biography
German band HAZE’s 1971 album Hazecolor-Dia is primarily remembered today for possessing an interesting album cover. The cover, which was designed by NINE DAYS’ WONDER founder and singer Walter SEYFFER, featured a plastic transparency over a picture of the band to create a slide picture frame. Neat, huh? Copies of the original vinyl are quite expensive these days.

The music behind the plastic transparency deserves some warrant too, but unfortunately, many of the details about Haze are unknown (including the name of their flute player). What is know is that Haze was made up of Kurt FREI on drums, Hans-Jurg FREI on rhythm guitar and organ, Heinz SCHWAB on lead guitar, Christian SCHERLER on vocals, and Dietmar LOW on bass and acting as solo songwriter. Their only record was produced by Peter HAUKE and Dieter DIERKS, who also produced NEKTAR’s debut album.

HAZE dished out a brand of heavy, spacey, funky art rock that is most successfully compared to THE ARTHUR BROWN BAND, ARTHUR BROWN’S KINGDOM COME and CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, due to the music’s bluesy feel and Scherler’s vocals, which jump from dark gravel to over the top screeching.

It would also be safe to also compare the group to other members of the Krautrock scene, as well as heavy blues bands that were transitioning out of the psychedelic era into the 70′s. However, Haze came equipped with a tricky sense of humor, best evident in the lyrics of “A Way To Find The Paradise”. Unafraid to jam, the songs are loaded with lengthy instrumental passages that highlight Schwab’s guitar skills (and the shortest track clocks in at a mere six and a half minutes). Recommended for all the freak rock fans out there.

Cuban president’s daughter gets US visa

HAVANA (AP) ? Cuban first daughter Mariela Castro has been granted a U.S. visa to attend events in San Francisco and New York, sparking a firestorm of criticism from Cuban-American politicians who called her an enemy of democracy and a shill for the Communist government her family has led for decades.

The trip, which kicks off next week when Castro is due to chair a panel on sexual diversity at a conference organized by the Latin American Studies Association, is among several to the United States by prominent Cubans, some with close links to the government. Cuban academics, scientists and economists now frequently attend seminars in the United States, and Cuban artists and entertainers are also finding it easier to visit the U.S. due to an easing of travel restrictions by President Barack Obama’s administration.

Castro, 50, is a noted advocate of gay rights and head of Cuba‘s National Center for Sex Education. She has pushed for the island to legalize gay marriage for years, so far without success. She recently praised Obama’s stance in support of same sex marriage, and said her father, President Raul Castro, also favors such a measure, though he has not said so publically.

It will not be Mariela Castro‘s first visit to the United States. She was granted a visa to attend an event in Los Angeles in 2002, during Republican President George W. Bush’s administration, and also made stops in Virginia and Washington.

Prominent Americans have also been frequent visitors to Cuba. Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter came last March, and a bi-partisan delegation led by U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat, was here in February, meeting with President Castro as well as an imprisoned American subcontractor.

Carmelo Mesa-Lago, the dean of Cuba economy-watchers and an expert at the University of Pittsburgh, said Cuba has long had a large presence at the LASA conference, without sparking much protest.

“Academic exchanges like these are not new, but what’s different in this case is who she is,” he said.

The LASA International Congress, which includes hundreds of sessions on academic topics, takes place May 23-26 in San Francisco, a city closely associated with the history of the gay rights movement. Cuba‘s state-run press said Castro will be among 40 Cuban experts in attendance.

According to the website of the New York Public Library, Castro is also to take part in a May 29 talk with Rea Carey, director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, about international gay rights, as well as sexual identity and orientation in Cuba.

The trip was confirmed by an official at her institute and a State Department official, both of whom spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter. The State Department official said several other Cubans who wanted to attend the LASA conference were denied visas.

State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland declined to comment, citing rules that prohibit discussion of individual visa applications. But she said that if Castro shows up in San Francisco it would be a “fair assumption” that she had entered the country legally.

LASA president Maria Herminia Tavares de Almeida, a University of Sao Paulo professor of international relations and political science, said Castro was selected for her expertise on gender issues, not for her famous family.

“She’s coming as any other researcher or participant that has attended a call for papers and had their paper accepted,” Almeida told The Associated Press in a phone interview. “It’s an academic issue, not a political issue.”

Almeida added that in recent years LASA had stopped holding its congresses in the United States because it was too difficult for Cuban academics to get U.S. visas, especially during the Bush administration. This time, the association felt that relations seemed to be improving so they brought the event to San Francisco, Almeida said, though some Cuban academics’ visa requests were denied.

Other prominent Cubans who have received U.S. visas recently include Eusebio Leal, a historian who has spearheaded the renovation of Old Havana and sits on the powerful Communist Party Central Committee. He is currently on a visit to New York and Washington.

Mariela Castro, despite being the president’s daughter and niece of retired revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, has no official link to the government, though her organization presumably receives state funding. It is not known whether she is a Communist Party member.

Cuban-American Sen. Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, slammed the visa decision on Wednesday, even before the visit was announced.

Menendez called Mariela Castro “a vociferous advocate of the regime and opponent of democracy.” On Thursday, four other Cuban-American lawmakers added their voices to the outcry, noting that State Department guidelines prohibit visas to officers of the Communist Party or government of Cuba.

“The administration’s appalling decision to allow regime agents into the U.S. directly contradicts Congressional intent and longstanding U.S. foreign policy,” wrote Representatives Mario Diaz-Balart, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and David Rivera of Florida, along with Albio Sires of New Jersey in a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“While the Cuban people struggle for freedom against increasing brutality at the hands of Castro’s thugs, the Obama administration is greeting high-level agents of that murderous dictatorship with open arms,” they wrote. “It is shameful that the Obama Administration would waive the common sense restrictions in place to appease the Castro dictatorship once again.”

Others said the hardliners were stirring up controversy over something that has happened many times before.

“It’s a very positive thing they give her the visa,” said Wayne Smith, America’s former top diplomat in Cuba and a critic of the U.S. embargo on the island. “You have to consider the source, where the criticism is coming from. They don’t want dialogue.”

Focus on the Family Community: Relationships and Marriage …

Currently Being Moderated

May 16, 2012 12:26 PM

I will try to keep this concise. Wife and I married 8/11/07. About a year into the marriage I confessed having a serious problem with pornography that stemmed from childhood. Spent from November of 2008 until present counseling, reading books, joined a support group, stayed sober from porn, got accountability partners in place in every area of daily life, filters on computers, passwords that only my wife knew,no access to computers without supervision etc…… I feel I have done a very good job in removing that trash from my life and our marriage. NOW – in the course of that time things did not go well. Wife refuses still to forgive me for damage done to our sexual relationship, our connection as a couple, we have not had children, and she got verbally and physically abusive in the last 2.5 years. She had what I would call an emotional affair with a man involved at her business. She is what I would consider now a binge drinker…. Not drinking daily but when she does it gets ugly. She got a DWI. She has put herself in compromising positions with members of the opposite sex in front of my sister, friends, her sister, etc….. In all of those instances someone was there to save her from a potential bad situation. I have remained faithful thru all of this, praying daily that God would invade her life and turn her around. I have forgiven her for these things trying to be empathetic to her pain, hurt, damaged trust, etc….. I just kept telling myself that she was just lashing out at me cuz I hurt her and I figured at some point she would stop this hurtful destructive pattern she was on. March 6, 2012 she moved out. I did my best to keep the peace. I helped her with her things and didn’t go off the deep end. She moved 80 miles from our home and rented a house. I have maintained that I don’t want to divorce and that I think we can save this. She feels that I am responsible to fix the marriage and wants no part in helping. She does not stay in contact with me unless she has a problem or needs money. I still love her and miss her and I just don’t know what to do…..? She keeps talking divorce and I am a very Christian man who in the past 4 years have recommited my life to Christ and following him as best as I can day by day. I know I made huge mistakes but am starting to feel hopeless! I know we have hope in Christ and his promises for us. I do trust he has a plan and has this in total control. People in my life are starting to suggest I let go and move on or ask me what I’m trying to save. This just breaks my heart because I want to save my marriage. Both our parents are praying that it will heal and be saved yet when her parents attempt to speak with her she just shuts them down. The serenity prayer keeps coming to mind and I find myself wondering if this is something I need to accept that I cant change??? I totally own my responsibility in the damage done to our marriage but I have poured myself into trying to resolve and mend the marriage. Looking for any advice anyone out there has. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them best I can. I am new to this online community so I hope I’m doing this right!

Franca Sozzani Supports The ‘Rebranding Of Africa’ With Latest Issue Of L’Uomo Vogue

Over the last few months the fashion industry have been looking at Africa. Far from it being all about charity, the current interest in the continent has been a good one at Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani is largely to thank. Last month she confirmed that the magazine would sponsor Ghanian fashion week and anyone that has followed her blog will know that she’s spent a lot of time in West Africa recently.

Many criticised her ‘All Black Issue’ back in 2008 for being a gimmick but Sozzani has committed to her aim of promoting diversity and supporting black creativity and the latest issue of L’Uomo Vogue is a case in point. The magazine’s May issue stars unlikely cover star 67 year-old Ban Ki-Moon the Secretary General of the UN as a part of Sozzani’s efforts to help in the ‘rebranding of Africa.’ According to the press release the aim of the issue is to ‘present a new portrait of an Africa that is positive, creative and confidence of its own strengths.’

‘The whole issue is packed with portraits of local personalities: not just presidents, first ladies and queens, but also artists, singers, musicians, actors, stylists, writers, models ? every one of whom has been portrayed in a positive light,’ the editor said. ‘They all agreed to take part in the issue precisely because presenting a positive image of the continent means focusing world attention on an area that has been hitherto excluded, with the exception of a number of countries where development has been possible thanks to tourism. But each of the African nations is endowed with enormous potential.’

Ki-Moon feels the same way. ‘Africa does not need charity’ he said. ‘Africa needs investment and partnership. Joining forces with civil society and private sector, including non-traditional players, like the fashion industry, has become indispensable. Sustainable development is my top priority.’

Euro crisis leaves door open for more BoE easing

LONDON (Reuters) – The escalating danger from the neighboring euro zone debt crisis prompted the Bank of England on Wednesday to keep alive the prospect of more help for an ailing British economy it said was growing more slowly than expected.

At a news conference after unveiling the bank’s latest economic forecasts, Governor Mervyn King also took aim at the euro zone, which is struggling to contain a renewed risk of Greece falling out of the currency bloc.

“The euro area is tearing itself apart without any obvious solution,” he said.

The central bank took a gloomier view of Britain‘s growth than before and, in a surprise to markets, lowered its medium-term inflation prediction – a sign that while more stimulus for the economy is not immediately on the cards it could come if conditions worsen.

However, a big upward revision to its short-term forecasts means inflation will take nearly a year longer than previously expected to fall back to its 2 percent target, posing a hurdle for any immediate stimulus.

Britain has not fully recovered from the 2008-2009 slump that left many Britons poorer. But the central bank still opted to halt the money printing press last week although the economy slipped back into recession earlier this year.

“We don’t know when the storm clouds will move away. But there are good reasons to believe that growth will recover and inflation will fall back,” King said.

He warned of a long and treacherous road ahead.

“We have been through a big global financial crisis, the biggest downturn in world output since the 1930s, the biggest banking crisis in this country’s history, the biggest fiscal deficit in our peacetime history and our biggest trading partner (is) the euro area,” he said.

“The idea that we could reasonably hope to sail serenely through this with growth close to the long-run average and inflation at 2 percent strikes me as wholly unrealistic. We’re bound to be buffeted by this,” he said.

The failure in Greece to form a government has stoked fears of a disorderly Greek exit from the common currency that could trigger meltdown of the global banking system.

Britain has been urging its banks to make contingency plans for at least six months, and King said that irrespective of whether there was a euro zone break-up, the way ahead would be painful for Britain as well as the rest of the EU.

AUSTERITY

The lack of growth has led to criticism of the BoE and Britain’s Conservative-led government, which is finding it harder to defend its five-year program to eliminate a huge budget deficit with tax hikes and spending cuts.

A new poll showed that the Conservatives carefully crafted image of economic competence is ebbing away, and Cameron said that the euro zone had to decide to “make up … or break up”.

Most economists think that the BoE will be reluctant to engage in another round of asset purchases with newly created money, known as quantitative easing, after buying a total of 325 billion pounds ($523 billion) in gilts, as inflation has proven stickier than forecast so far .

But King said more stimulus remained an option, and analysts took the unexpectedly low two-year inflation forecast as a sign that the policymakers had room to do more if needed.

“The possibility of more QE is very much on the table,” said RBC gilts strategist Sam Hill. “I don’t think we should be surprised if marginal deteriorations in the euro crisis means that the Bank delivers more stimulus over the course of the next couple of months.”

Sterling fell to a fresh four-week low against the dollar and a session low against the euro, while 10-year gilt yields hit a record low below 1.83 percent as traders bet on further BoE gilt purchases.

Britain’s economy shrank again in the first quarter and the central bank indicated that an extra day off for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee would hit growth in the second quarter.

Business surveys have painted a more positive picture of the economy and, in another sign of some underlying resilience, the number of Britons out of work fell at the fastest pace in nearly a year in the three months to March.

As in previous Inflation Reports since the crisis, the central bank had to revise up its near-term inflation forecast and cut its growth outlook.

However, the upward revision to inflation over the next year was much more marked than in the last report, with the BoE blaming rises in energy prices and indirect taxation, as well as weaker-than-expected productivity growth.

Inflation was now likely to remain above the 2 percent target for the next year or so, it said. In two years’ time, inflation is forecast to be around 1.6 percent, compared to 1.8 percent in the BoE’s February forecast.

Weak productivity – possibly due to a dysfunctional banking system that is blocking new investment – means that Britain’s economy may struggle to grow strongly without generating excess inflation for the next 2-3 years, King said.

At this point, annual growth will have recovered to around 2.7 percent, about 0.3 percentage points lower than previously forecast. But it could take as long as 20 years for total economic output to get back to where it would have been without the financial crisis, King said.

“There is no obvious reason to believe that we can’t get back to the level of output that we were on the pre-crisis trend path (but) it doesn’t follow … that you can just put your foot on the accelerator …to expand output.”

Romney’s former rivals gloss over earlier anti-Romney remarks

One by one ? with the exception of holdout Ron Paul ? the GOP also-rans have coughed up endorsements of their onetime rival.

They’re hoping you don’t. And acting like it never happened (even though most of their words are just clicks away online.)

One by one ? with the exception of holdout Ron Paul ? the GOP also-rans have coughed up endorsements of their onetime rival. And as they do, they’re pulling rhetorical backflips to distance themselves from their former harsh assessments of?Romney.

Don’t try this at home, folks. It takes a professional politician to pull it off with a straight face.

A sampling of the also-rans’ anti-Romney rhetoric when they were candidates and their obligatory niceness after endorsing?Romney.

RICK SANTORUM

The former Pennsylvania senator still doesn’t have trouble curbing his enthusiasm for?Romney. He waited a month after dropping out of the race to endorse?Romney, then emailed his tepid endorsement in the dead of night. He finally got out the E-word in the 13th paragraph of his 16-paragraph statement.

THEN:

“He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.” Santorum later said he was referring to?Romney’s?standing on health care reform.

“If Mitt?Romney’s?an economic heavyweight, we’re in trouble, because he was 47th out of 50 in job creation in the state of Massachusetts when he was governor. He may have had some success at making money for himself and his partners at Bain Capital, and I give him a lot of credit for doing so, but that’s a very different thing than going out and creating an atmosphere for people to create ? that create jobs.”

NOW:

“There are many significant areas in which we agree: the need for lower taxes, smaller government and a reduction in out-of-control spending. We certainly agree that abortion is wrong and marriage should be between one man and one woman. I am also comfortable with Gov.?Romney?on foreign policy matters, and we share the belief that we can never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons. And while I had concerns about Gov.?Romney?making a case as a candidate about fighting against Obamacare, I have no doubt if elected he will work with a Republican Congress to repeal it and replace it.” ? Endorsement emailed to Santorum supporters.

NEWT GINGRICH

Gingrich didn’t formally endorse?Romney?when he dropped out of the race but spoke well of him and later said that was close enough. The guy who promised not to run down his GOP opponents at the start of the race had some withering things to say about?Romney?during the heat of the campaign. Gingrich, a former House speaker, would rather you forget that now, though: His anti-Romney videos on YouTube, once public, are now private. The man who repeatedly branded?Romney?a “Massachusetts moderate” now calls him a “solid conservative.”

THEN:

“Someone who will lie to you to get to be president will lie to you when he is president.”

Are you calling Mitt?Romney?a liar? “Yes.” Questioned about his previous comment.

“Can we drop a little bit of the pious baloney?” To?Romney?during a debate.

“Why would you want to nominate the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Obama?”

“We are not going to beat Barack Obama with some guy who has Swiss bank accounts, Cayman Island accounts, owns shares of Goldman Sachs while it forecloses on Florida and is himself a stockholder in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while he tries to think the rest of us are too stupid to put the dots together and understand what this is all about.”

“I think that a bold Reagan conservative with a very strong economic plan is a lot more likely to succeed in that campaign than a relatively timid Massachusetts moderate who even The Wall Street Journal said had an economic plan so timid it resembled Obama.”

NOW:

“I’m going to campaign for him, I favor him over Obama. I went through, like, seven different issues where I favor him. I’ll do everything I can to help elect?Romney. … As far as I’m concerned, I’ve endorsed him.”

“Compared to Barack Obama, Mitt?Romney?is a solid conservative. And I think you have to come down to, what’s the choice this November? And the choice is the most radical president in American history and a failed president at the?economy?and somebody who has a solid record on jobs and who, in fact, on basic principles, is conservative. And I think you can get into arguments about who’s how conservative, but compared to Obama, Mitt?Romney?is a solid conservative.”

MICHELE BACHMANN

Bachmann waited four months after dropping out before she endorsed?Romney. The congresswoman from Minnesota campaigned with him in Virginia earlier this month but didn’t bring up health care in their joint appearance.

THEN:

“He can’t beat Obama because his policy is the basis of Obamacare. The signature issue of Obama is Obamacare. You can’t have a candidate who has given the blueprint for Obamacare. It’s too identical. It’s not going to happen.”

“He’s been very inconsistent on his positions. He’s been on both sides of the abortion issue, on both sides of the issue with same-sex marriage … he was for the TARP bill, the $700 billion bailout and the global warming initiatives.”

NOW:

“I am endorsing Gov. Mitt?Romney?for president of the United States, a man who will preserve the American dream of prosperity and liberty.”

“This is what victory looks like.” Campaigning with?Romney?in Portsmouth, Va., on the day she endorsed him.

“He’s very smart. He has a very optimistic message. Women trust him because they see, this is a man who started a business from scratch, for heaven’s sake.”

“One thing that Mitt?Romney?has demonstrated, he will repeal Obamacare. That’s a big compare and contrast between Barack Obama. We will never get rid of socialized medicine, which is Obamacare, under Barack Obama. Mitt?Romney?has committed himself to repealing Obamacare. … A lot of people know MittRomney’s?positive agenda.”

RICK PERRY

If he couldn’t have the GOP nomination himself, Perry still wasn’t about to back?Romney. As he dropped out of the race, the Texas governor endorsed Gingrich. He didn’t come around to endorsing?Romney?until Gingrich announced last month that he was planning to drop out.

THEN:

“While you were the governor of Massachusetts in that period of time, you were 47th in the nation in job creation. … You failed as the governor of Massachusetts.”

“If you are a victim of Bain Capital’s downsizing, it’s the ultimate insult for Mitt?Romney?to come to South Carolina to tell you he feels your pain. Because he caused it.”

“I have no doubt that Mitt?Romney?was worried about pink slips ? whether he’d have enough of them to hand out.”

NOW:

“Mitt?Romney?has earned the Republican presidential nomination through hard work, a strong organization and a disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed, job-killing policies from President Obama and his administration.”

JON HUNTSMAN

The former Utah governor endorsed?Romney?at the same time he dropped out of the race in January, but there was no joint appearance.

THEN:

“You can’t be a perfectly lubricated weather vane on the important issues of the day.”

“Gov.?Romney?enjoys firing people. I enjoy creating jobs.”

“When you combine a record of uncertainty ? running first as a senator, as a liberal; governor as a moderate; then as a conservative for the presidency, people wonder where your core is.”

“He’s been on three sides of every major issue of the day. And because of that it’s going to be very tough in the end to be able to make that trust argument to the American people.”

NOW:

“It is now time for our party to unite around the candidate best equipped to defeat Barack Obama. Despite our differences and the space between us on some of the issues, I believe that candidate is Gov. MittRomney.”

“I think he’s the best equipped by far to deal with the economic issues and challenges that confront us. … He’s grown a lot, he’s learned a lot. He’s probably better prepared to lead.”

RON PAUL

The scrappy Texas congressman was the last man standing among?Romney’s?GOP opponents, and he’s not ready to make nice yet. Paul announced this week that he won’t campaign anymore, but he’s still collecting delegates at state party conventions and could give?Romney?grief at the national nominating convention in Tampa, Fla., come August. Paul ran some scorching ads against?Romney?earlier this year but shied away from going after?Romney?in person.

THEN:

Narrator in Ron Paul radio ad: “Mitt?Romney?can’t fight against Obamacare because he supported the same mandates and government takeovers as governor of Massachusetts.?Romney?can’t stand up against more bailouts because he supported them. He can’t lead the charge to shrink the government because he has grown it.?Romney’s?record is liberal and putting him up against Obama is a recipe for defeat.”

NOW:

“Not soon.” Paul’s answer when he asked Tuesday when he’ll endorse?Romney.

Clarion names Letters interim head wrestling coach

Troy Letters, 29, a 2001 Shaler High grad and former PIAA & NCAA Division I Champion, who was the assistant head coach at Clarion University during the 2011-12 season, was named today as the Interim Head Wrestling Coach for the Golden Eagles by Athletic Director Dave Katis. Letters replaces Matt Dernlan, who was the Golden Eagles head coach in 2012 and accepted the head coaching position at Binghamton University today.

“I am very happy to announce the hiring of Troy Letters as the Interim Wrestling Coach at Clarion,” said Katis. “We were impressed this season with the job Troy did in preparing our team for the rigors of NCAA Division I wrestling both on and off the mat. Troy is an outstanding person with strong character and leadership skills, plus brings a strong wrestling expertise to the program. We feel he is the right person to continue to move our program forward and back to national prominence. We are very fortunate to have him leading our program,” he continued. “We are making this announcement today to show how much we believe in Troy and feel it shows Clarion’s commitment to a strong, competitive NCAA Division I Wrestling program.”

“I am truly honored to be named the interim head coach here at Clarion and look forward to continuing the job that Matt (Dernlan) and I started on a year ago, which is returning Clarion’s storied NCAA Division I wrestling tradition back to national prominence,” said Letters. “My dream was to become a Division I head coach at a quality program, and I truly believe I have found a home at Clarion.”

Letters came to Clarion a year ago from Penn State, where he spent the previous three years helping develop Nittany Lion wrestlers. In 2008-09 he was the Director of Wrestling Operations, and his last two years (2009-10; 2010-11) as an assistant coach. Penn State won the NCAA Division I National Championship in 2011 with Cael Sanderson as head coach.

A native of Pittsburgh and a 2001 graduate of Shaler High School, Letters wrestled under coach Rick Laferriere and compiled a 145-5 record at Shaler and won PIAA State titles as a junior in 2000 (152-pounds) and a senior in 2001 (160-pounds). He also placed second at PIAA’s as a sophomore in 1999 (145-pounds). He had over 100 falls in his high school career and as a senior won the Wade Schalles Pinner Award (former Golden Eagle standout) for most falls in a single season.

Letters went on to wrestle at Lehigh under coach Greg Strobel and amassed a career record of 115-9 (31 falls) from 2003-2006. Troy was an NCAA runner-up as a freshman in 2003 at 165-pounds with a season record of 34-2, then won the NCAA D-I title at 165 in 2004 with a record of 36-1. He placed third at nationals in 2005 at 165-pounds with a record of 27-1 and qualified for nationals his senior year, but an injury kept him out the second half of the year and hampered him at nationals. Troy was a 3-time EIWA Champion and had a dual meet career record of 65-2.

After graduating from Lehigh with a degree in Political Science, he was the head assistant coach at Princeton in 2006-07 and then ran his own wrestling club for a year before joining the Penn State staff.

“I have great memories of Clarion – especially coming to wrestling camp here as a youth wrestler, and remember the tradition that Clarion enjoyed then,” reflected Letters. “We used to come to matches and root for Clarion. Hopefully I can take what I’ve learned in the past year here at Clarion, as a coach at Penn State and as a wrestler and apply that knowledge to help our wrestlers become their absolute best. Wrestling is a blue collar sport and Clarion is a blue collar community. I love being part of this community and look forward to working with the administration, staff, faculty, wrestlers and the community and look forward to making Clarion a special place in the wrestling world.”

Letters and wife Concepcion have daughters Blythe and Concetta. The family resides in Clarion. Troy is the son of Jeff and Kathy Letters.

CLARION WRESTLING NOTES: Troy Letters is only the seventh (7th) head coach at NCAA Division I Clarion since 1960. Frank Lignelli re-started the wrestling program in the Fall of 1959 and coached through 1966. In 2012 Clarion was third at PSAC’s, fourth at EWL’s and 18th at the NCAA Division I National Championships? Clarion had 2 D-I All-Americans in 2012 when Abdurakhmonov, a senior, finished third at 165-pounds, and Fleming, a junior, finished fifth at 157-pounds? Interestingly, Frank Lignelli (Monongahela), Ken Nellis (Shaler), Troy Letters (Shaler) and Teague Moore (North Allegheny) are all Western Pa. products? Letters and Nellis both from Shaler High School ? Coach Bubb was a native of Lock Haven, but a Pitt grad and All-American?
